If you’ve searched for a new brunch spot in DC even once in the past couple years, you’ve probably heard of I Egg You. But if you’ve been too busy, too sleep-deprived, or just too overwhelmed with life to keep up, let me catch you up. What started as a pandemic pop-up has now taken root as a full-time Capitol Hill breakfast gem, quickly becoming one of DC’s must-try brunch places.

Eggs are the star here (obviously), but the real magic is in how they’re served in ways that feel both comfortingly familiar and quite creative. If you’re looking for a spot that delivers on quality without the pretense (or the ridiculous price tag), this might just be your new favorite breakfast in DC. Let’s get into it.
Hey food friends! 👋 I’m Kaitlynn, half of a food-loving couple 🍜 exploring DC (& beyond) who knows the best connections happen at a shared table. 🍽️. Whether you're searching for the perfect bánh mì or trying to master your grandma's marinara 🍅, I’m here with dishes (and discussions) that make life more interesting. Come hungry, leave inspired. ✨🍴
Welcome to The Brunch Files
Our city runs on deadlines, espresso shots, and the eternal struggle to keep a social life afloat. Here, brunch isn’t just a meal—it’s a lifeline. It’s that rare moment to unplug, eat well, and maybe—just maybe—ignore an email.
But finding something that hits the spot that’s delicious, a little adventurous, kid-friendly, and reasonably priced? That’s the challenge. Whether in DC or on the road, The Brunch Files tracks the best spots worth your time (and your hungover friend or toddler’s patience). Check out the (new!) full series here.

First Impressions: Warm Vibes, Crispy Toast
We hit up I Egg You early on a Saturday morning, bouncing down the sidewalk with kiddo at the sight of snowflakes (we had missed the only real snowstorm previously this year), ready to catch up on this little piece of history we missed while raising a toddler in a pandemic. Inside, a genuinely friendly staff member greeted us and offered up a prime window seat.
By 10:30 a.m., the place was already filling up. Word’s out.
The Food: Crispy, Custardy, and Just the Right Amount of Fancy
Stuffed French Toast

You know how some French toast is all show, drenched in syrup but secretly dry in the middle? Not this one. This beauty is thiiiick, golden and custardy all the way through, stuffed with a creamy filling that’s giving Saturday morning sugary-sweet in just the right amount to keep you coming back for another bite. Fresh, tart blueberries balance the richness, topped with lovely powdered sugar and maple syrup. The kid (and inner children) at the table took one curious bite then kept at it steadily til it was gone.
You Bacon Me Crazy
A solid breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon, fried egg, a bit of gooey cheese, and toasted bread. This is a solid option for your classic breakfast sandwich—no major surprises, maybe more crispy and light than some other competitors, buuuut—add their house hot sauce (sweet at first, then smoky, then slow-building heat), and now we’re really talking.

Bean Curd, Done That
I’m always looking for solid vegetarian options and this hits the spot. It surprised me and took me out of my normal lane but I will defintely be back to order this one.
The tofu? I need to learn how to make tofu like this—crispy outside, full of flavor, and actually enjoyable. If more places served tofu like that it could maybe even put a recognizable dent in climate change efforts (not all superheroes wear capes).

Toss in some crispy chili flakes, a happy little punch from those purple pickled onions, an egg, and toast that’s crispy without being dry, and you’ve got yourself a dish that low-key steals the show. This is my new go-to avocado toast. I will definitely come back for this one.
I Got Hot Sauce In My Bag
We are definitely hot sauce people and this one makes the list for sure. If you work at I Egg You and you’re reading this, you should definitely bottle that and sell it because we will buy it every single time we visit. This time, they sent us home with an extra container of this little bit of magic that is sweet then vinaigrette, and low smoky heat that builds bite after bite. This is the stuff.

If paid membership isn’t in the cards for you right now —everything is expensive right now, we get it — a one-time donation in any size helps us keep the feast going.
The Verdict: We’ll Be Back
Some places take years to feel like an institution. I Egg You pulled it off almost immediately. It’s the rare spot that balances quality, creativity, and approachability—without the pretense or the ridiculous price tag. James Beard nods aside, this place feels like somewhere you want to come back to over and over and stay awhile —from the egg-forward menu to the casual, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve found your new go-to. We’ll be back soon, and if you’re smart, you’ll beat the inevitable crowds while you still can.
